Jodhpur, the Blue City, is one of the closest major cities to Jawai — which makes it one of the easiest and most popular jumping-off points for a leopard safari. Here's everything you need to know about getting from Jodhpur to Jawai, what to expect, and how to plan your trip.

Jodhpur to Jawai Distance & Route

Distance: Approximately 160 km.

Travel time: Around 2.5–3 hours by road.

Route: Jodhpur → Rohat → Pali → Falna → Sumerpur → Jawai, via NH62. The highway is well-maintained and suitable for self-drive cars, hired taxis, or private transfers.

By Train

Jawai has its own railway station — Jawai Bandh Railway Station — on the Jodhpur–Ahmedabad line, making train travel from Jodhpur a comfortable, scenic option if you'd rather not drive.

Nearest Airport

Jodhpur Airport is actually the closest airport to Jawai of any major city — making Jodhpur the fastest entry point for anyone flying in from Delhi, Mumbai, or elsewhere in India before heading to Jawai.

Why Combine Jodhpur & Jawai

Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort and blue-washed old city give you Rajasthan's royal history and architecture. Jawai, just 2.5–3 hours away, gives you the complete opposite — wild leopards roaming free granite hills, with zero national-park crowds. Together they make one of the most complete short Rajasthan itineraries: a day or two in Jodhpur for the fort and old city, followed by a day or two in Jawai for safaris, Jawai Dam, and a Rabari village walk.

Suggested 3-Day Jodhpur + Jawai Itinerary

  • Day 1: Explore Jodhpur — Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, the blue old city and its bazaars.

  • Day 2: Drive to Jawai (2.5–3 hrs). Check in, and head straight out for an evening leopard safari.

  • Day 3: Morning safari, Jawai Dam visit, and a Rabari village walk before heading back or continuing your Rajasthan trip.

Practical Tips

  • Book in advance: especially during peak season (October–March), as Jawai's camps and resorts are limited in number.

  • Vehicle: a regular car is fine for the drive; safari jeeps are arranged separately at Jawai.

  • Best time: October to March for peak leopard activity; monsoon (July–September) also works well since Jawai stays open year-round.
